New Faucet for Our Jetted Tub

Posted on

When I first started working on my own projects, I had a lot to learn and many times I learned from my own mistakes when working on something for our home. One of these experiences happened when we were updating our master bathroom. There was a corner jetted tub installed that was still in good condition, especially after we scrubbed it down, but the faucet on it was old and it required weird tricks to get it working correctly. To get the water to come out best, you had to turn on the cold water full blast first and then you could slowly turn on the hot water. If you tried any other other way, the tub spout would only shoot out small streams of water.

It came to a point that we just didn’t want to deal with it anymore, not to mention all the hard water stains and other junk that had collected on the trim over the years. We went out and found a trim kit that we both liked and that matched the other new fixtures we had put in the bathroom. The problem can when I went to install the new tub trim. I took out the old faucet and cleaned up the area the best I could and got ready to put in our recently purchased trim. To my dismay, it didn’t fit the roman tub valve that was already installed. I was pretty mad, but at least the new trim kit that we purchased specified the valve model that we would need to purchase. (Find products here.)

New Faucet for Our Jetted Tub

Before I went to buy the valve kit, I got under the tub, using an access door that had been installed to see if I would need any other parts to do the installation correctly. I determined what I would need and headed back to the supply house to get the new valve and additional parts. After some struggling and the use of some choice words, I was able to get the old valve out without damaging any of the existing plumbing. The new valve went in pretty easily, at least compared to how hard it was getting the old one out.

Once the valve was in, I was able to install the new trim kit following the instructions that came in the box and it was ready to be used. I turned on the supply valves and then turned on the hot water, it worked great! I turned off the hot and then turned on the cold water and the stream of water coming from the spout was the same amount as the hot water. After all the set backs that I had, it was nice to finally have the job done and for everything to be working correctly. It was nice to be able to use the tub again (since it took a few weeks for me to be able to get the project done). To this day it is a place where we can relax after a long day!
